Day 190 (10 July 2023) - Kiruna, Sweden to Henningsvaer, Norway
DAY 190 (10 JULY 2023) – I arrived safely at the beautiful village of Henningsvaer. Henningsvaer is a fishing village in Vågan Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located on several small islands in the Lofoten Archipelago, and about 20 kilometres (12 miles) southwest of the town of Svolvær.
Henningsvær is connected to the mainland and rest of Vågan via the Henningsvær Bridges. In fact most of the small islands are well connected via bridges.
I spent the evening walking the streets and exploring the village. It has a cozy small town atmosphere but also feels quite urban and hipster-like. There were many old wooden houses, unique boutiques, cafes, restaurants, art galleries and shops selling locally made products, all surrounded by the sea and the tall jagged mountains.
The Henningsvaer Football Stadium is one of the most scenic football stadiums in the world, built in between tall mountains surrounded by the sea. Since it was the summer holidays in Norway and Sweden, there were many motorhomes on the road and at various camp sites.
I stayed at the Fast Hotel Henningsvaer. Due to the holidays, the hotel prices were also quite expensive. My hotel room came with an amazing view of the jagged mountains and the calm serene lake right next to the room!
Food was also not cheap due to the currency difference. The currency used in Norway is NOK (Norwegian Krone) (RM 1.00 = RM2.24 NOK).
