Day 086 - Dusty Trails and Endless Skies: Riding the Long Gravel Roads of the Australian Outback

Updated: Oct 3, 2023

Day 086 (28 Mar 2023) - Alice Springs to Coober Pedy, Australia

DAY 086 (28 MAR 2023) – Early morning, I left Alice Springs for Coober Pedy. The temperature was 20 C.

On the way, I stopped by to fuel up at a petrol station near Erldunda Roadhouse. I got to see some emus up close at an emu enclosure nearby. Emus are native to Australia and belong to the same family of birds as ostrich – which is why they have similar appearance and share genetic traits.

The highway route was basically a long red gravel road surrounded by a beautiful open landscape of red desert sand, with dry grass and shrubs on both sides of the road. There were some dried up trees around with very little leaves or while some had none at all - making them look uniquely beautiful.
