Day 122 - Witnessing History's Scars: Exploring the Surviving Ruins of the Atomic Bomb in Hiroshima

Updated: Oct 9, 2023

Day 122 (03 May 2023) - Hiroshima, Japan

DAY 122 (03 MAY 2023) – Today I visited the Atomic Bomb Dome in Hiroshima, also known as the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, Genbaku Dome or A-Bomb Dome. This site was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.

I got to see the ruin of the hall that remains standing till today as a reminder of the devastating effects of nuclear warfare.

This ruin serves as a memorial to the over 140, 000 people killed in the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on the morning of 6th August 1945, towards the end of World War II.

It is crazy to think that this incident happened just 78 years ago, and there were survivors – some of whom are still alive today.

I also walked around the city of Hiroshima before leaving for a 4 hour ride to Fukuoka, situated in the island of Kyushu.
