Day 164 (14 June 2023) - Aktash, Russia
DAY 164 (14 JUNE 2023) (continued) – After about 2 hours riding on the scenic Chuya Highway from Tashanta border, we stopped at Geyzernoye Lake, a famous tourist spot also known as the Blue Geyser Lake. It is located along the highway, near the Aktash Village in the Ulagansky District.
It was a 5 minute walk along a wooden walkway before we got to see one of the most uniquely beautiful lakes in the world!
The thermal hot springs located at the center of the lake causes bubbles to mix with the silt at the bottom of the lake. This mixture forms several circle-like patterns in different shades of turquoise blue. From the top view, it looks like an artists’ masterpiece.
The lake was discovered in 2005 and believed to have formed in 2003 after a powerful earthquake. It has a depth of 2 meters and a diameter of 30 meters. This lake apparently glows under the sunlight and does not freeze during winter - not even at a temperature below 0 °C.
