Day 144 - A Glimpse of Greatness: Witnessing the Famous Trans-Siberian Train and Railroad

Updated: Oct 1, 2023

Day 144 (25 May 2023) - Vladivostok, Russia

DAY 144 (25 MAY 2023) – I arrived at Vladivostok yesterday evening and had an interesting encounter at the immigration.

Later my shipping agent, Mr Yuri picked me up from at the Port and sent me to my hotel. He helped me book the hotel for 2 nights since it would take several days for the authorities to process and release my motorbike.

Today afternoon, we (Mr Yuri and myself) walked about 5 km to the customs office since it was difficult to get parking. I enjoyed the walk as the weather was good - it was sunny but not too hot (the temperature was 15 C). At the customs office, I filled up all required documents and submitted them with the help of My Yuri. I could possibly collect my motorbike tomorrow, or on Monday.

Later I got to see the famous Trans-Siberian Train that travels between Moscow and Vladivostok. The Trans-Siberian railroad was built between 1890 and 1916 and stretches 9288 km. It is the longest railway line in the world and is serviced daily. It takes about 7-8 days to go from one end to the other, without stops - passing through various major cities and 8 timezones! Basically, it’s like travelling nearly a third the way around the planet!
