Day 156 - Russian Town Near Mongolia: Help From a Russian Police Officer on a 6-Hour Ride to Khyagt

Day 156 (o6 June 2023) - Listvyanka to Khyagt, Russia

DAY 156 (06 JUNE 2023) – I planned to visit Mongolia for a week, so today I’m headed to Khyagt or Kyakhta). Kyakhta is a town in the Republic of Buryatia, Russia, located near the border with Mongolia. It has historical significance as a trading post on the Silk Road and was an important center for trade between Russia and China during the 18th and 19th centuries.

I travelled 670 km and arrived at my destination after a 10 hour journey. It took me longer than expected since my navigation system failed to work as I could not get signal. I seeked the help of a Russian policeman who guided me in the right direction. He was very friendly and spoke good English.

I arrived at my hotel by evening, after a long 10 hour journey from Irkutsk. I stayed the night at Eurasia Hotel at a cost of R900 (RM 50) for a single room. I also made sure to send the bike for washing before crossing the border tomorrow.
